Why Our Worm Castings Are Different
Walk into any box store and you'll find bags of worm castings that have been sitting on shelves for who knows how long. No temperature control, no moisture management, just aging product losing vitality with each passing day. Our castings tell a different story.
We keep a few worms in each bin of finished castings, continuously moistening and turning them to maintain peak freshness. If castings don't sell quickly, we reintroduce more worms and mix in a small amount of worm chow to keep the biology active. The result? Castings that are alive with beneficial microorganisms, not dried-out remnants of what they once were.
Bait Farm Castings: Quantity Over Quality
Bait worm operations focus on quickly raising fat worms for fishing—castings are just an afterthought. To maximize growth speed, they bed their worms in peat moss, an unsustainable product. They feed them nothing but artificial worm chow instead of the nutrient-rich variety of food scraps and organic matter that creates superior castings. We take the opposite approach, creating worms that may not be the fastest (or fattest) growing, but we think they are the happiest—and that shows in the quality of their castings.
Premium Fine Sift
Our premium fine sift gives you silky-smooth light-weight castings —perfect for everything from potting mixes to garden beds. You might occasionally spot a small worm or cocoon that slipped through—that's actually a good sign of freshness and living biology. (If you prefer a rougher sift with more worms and cocoons, just let us know.)
The Bottom Line
Fresh, locally-made castings with active biology will always outperform mass-produced, shelf-stable products. Yes, you might pay a bit more than the big box alternative, but when you feel the difference in your hands and see it in your garden, you'll understand why quality matters.
